Go Green with Your Sex Toys

Across the globe, we have seen growth in environmental advocacy. Global climate strikes became more prominent since #FridaysForFuture, a youth-led and -organized movement that began in August 2018 to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis. In Singapore, the Go Green Plan was recently introduced by the government, charting targets to position the country to achieve long-term net-zero emissions aspirations.

Such initiatives have sparked efforts from individuals and organisations to engage in more sustainable actions, such as with Zero Waste SG starting the Bring Your Own (BYO) Singapore movement where 430 retail outlets offered incentives to customers who bring their own reusable bags, bottles or containers.

So, what does sustainability look like in the sex toy industry? Here are some green products that you may consider, so as to minimise the detrimental effects of consumerism while not neglecting your sex life.

Products with HYBRID KIT by Fun Factory

Using batteries is not foreign to most of us – we use it to power our remote controls, flashlights, and so on. However, it is important to note how rechargeable batteries have 28 times less impact on global warming, making the former a much more favourable alternative to the latter.

  • Fun Factory produces the Hybrid Kit, which is a charging kit that pairs with their BATTERY+ toys. The products compatible with the Hybrid Kit include Abby G, Mr Boss, Wicked Wings, Darling Devil,  and Diva Dolphin. All of them are available at www.Pinklifestyle.com (check with them for stocks).
  • It serves as an eco-friendly alternative to the standard one-time-use batteries, charging the rechargeable batteries inside the toy.

The Womanizer Classic is a vibrator that stimulates your clitoris without making contact, and without you feeling overstimulated or coming to rely on it, with most people with vaginas* experiencing an orgasm within a few minutes.

(* It is gender-inclusive to use the term “people with vaginas/ people with penises” rather than “women/men” respectively because there are women who do not have vaginas and men who do not have penises.[1] For instance, trans women who were assigned male at birth and have not undergone gender-affirming surgery may have a penis, and not a vagina.)

On top of how the PREMIUM eco also uses rechargeable batteries, it is made from both biodegradable and recyclable materials. These make the product sustainable. The vibrator is made from Biolene, which is completely biodegradable. This means that the vibrator can be broken down into its smallest possible components by living microorganisms without causing harm.

This is a great alternative to other sex toys, which are usually made from ABS plastic, which is not biodegradable, nonrenewable and made from oil. In other words, it is harmful to the environment.

On top of this, the PREMIUM eco can be completely disassembled into separate parts, making it easy to recycle.

Recycling is key to environmental sustainability as it reduces wastes while conserving natural resources.

Overall, you should look out for aspects of biodegradability, recyclability, and rechargeability when purchasing your next toy, for the good of both yourself and the environment.
